TEACHING PRINCIPLES
Our training is built on the belief that creating scoring opportunities is an art developed through repetition, freedom, and purposeful play. By using realistic game situations and small-sided formats, players gain confidence, solve problems, and learn to express themselves with the ball. These principles form the foundation of our six pillars of development—on and off the field.
Going to goal
This is the bases of our approach to training. creating scoring opportunities is an art which shapes over time by getting players in scoring positions in front of the goal. This thought process through out the development stages allows for players to become better problem solvers in different parts of the field.
1.
Technical Mastery
Players cannot express themselves unless they can comfortably maneuver the ball in creating scoring chances. Most of our curriculum specially in the younger ages are centered towards attacking and defending the goal. These instinctive behaviors are harder to grasp as the players get older.
2.
Tactical Awareness
Short sided games or street soccer format helps develop the best players at all levels of the game. Understanding the numerical advantage in different parts of the field to attack the goal is the foundation of creating scoring opportunities
3.
Mental Approach
Learning is hindered when players are not comfortable to make mistakes while experimenting with new ideas. When comfortable, players will build confidence and enjoy the game. This is when passion grows.
4.
Physicality
Soccer requires the body to have certain specific agility. That is why some sports use soccer as cross training. Although there are many structured agility excercises and philosophies, we believe the same result can be achieved by a combination of natural movements with the ball and one versus one activities.
5.
Off the Field
Soccer is a vehicle for life lessons. We hold players to standards of accountability, humility, and respect — for teammates, opponents, coaches, and the game itself. Through discipline and commitment, players develop confidence, resilience, and a genuine love for the process.
At Sporting OC we believe that private meetings with our players and their family is crucial to performance improvement. At meetings we aim to touch on player strengths and weaknesses. We feel building mental chemistry with our players helps the comfort level and creates a sense of purpose to achieve their goals.
